As many of you know I posted all of my concerns very openly about Obama during his Presidency. Now we have Trump in office. This most recent election as in elections past I have felt that the choices were pretty slim pickings. I prefer Trump over Obama but in my humble opinion I hate the thought that this country can’t do any better. I do not think we have had a decent President since Reagan and can we please pretend that Jimmy Carter was never in the lineup? However, it is inevitable that whoever holds the position is going to fail and will never please everyone. So whatever our issue is with any President as long as they are President we must suck it up. That does not mean we can’t have an opinion and unfortunately when there are opinions there are vain arguments and much disrespect. I just hope that whatever my opinion in the future I can avoid arguments and be respectful.
However, as I so stated in the opening paragraph and hope to illustrate all the more clearly is that whoever is in office will fail and will never please everyone all the time. With that said, I refer to 1 Samuel Chapters 8 & 9. The Lord was the King over Israel yet He was rejected by the people. The Israelites instead decided to choose a man (Samuel) over God. Why? How on earth could this be? After all, it was the Lord through Moses in Exodus 14 Who had parted the Red Sea and rescued the Israelites from the Egyptians. They had tasted and seen that the Lord was good first hand. Yet man is fallen and has been since the day Adam was sent out of the garden. If the Lord Who is perfect is not good enough then no one will satisfy. We fail ourselves and yet we expect others to uphold our standards. When we do not get what we want from the Lord we step outside of His will and take what we want despite the consequences and then whine later because of them. So here we are today and we see history repeating itself as we say, “God Bless America.”
If you want to see the grace of the Lord in full swing among leaders then there is no greater leader to my knowledge to refer to than King David. In 2nd Samuel 11 he committed adultery and murder. Ironically in Acts 13:22 it is said that the Lord declared David a man after His own heart. How could it be since he had failed so miserably? I would have to say from my own experience and reading the accounts of David that he learned from his mistakes and was cultivating the Godly sorrow described in 2nd Corinthians 7:10 that brings about repentance. I on the other hand keep repeating the same mistakes over and over again and stay in a pit of despair. David was such a fallen man yet He wrote the Psalms which I refer to on much occasion for either comfort or in hopes to be inspired to write a song. The testimony of his life and his contributions in the scriptures are a result of the Lord working in and through Him to will and to do of His good pleasure as a declaration to reveal the glory of the Lord.
We are very fortunate that we do not have Presidents in office until the day they die or are ran out of office while there is rioting in the streets. And there are many people who are still alive today who saw the affects of Hitler and his Nazi regime. The genocide of at least 5.5 million Jews among millions of others whom were deemed (sub-humans) or socially undesirable plagued Germany under the leadership of Hitler’s and the Nazi regime. Hitler was doing only what was right in His own eyes. However, pride comes before the fall and ironically enough in the end he feared being captured just as he had captured countless people. As he was being hunted down by the Soviet Red Army he committed suicide. And I personally for one feel very fortunate to not have been born in North Korea where there is a raving lunatic who just can’t seem to shake the thought process of starting World War 3 if given the opportunity.
Paul (although not a leader) who was once known as Saul before his conversion on the road to Damascus was at one time what I would consider a Hitler type figure. In Acts 7 & 8 I Saul was consenting to the stoning death of Stephen and was wreaking havoc upon the church, entering every house, and dragging off men and women, committing them to prison. However unlike Hitler, Paul came to a knowledge of the truth. Paul was chosen in Acts Chapter 9. Now I do not know the spirituality of Hitler other than his hatred for the Jews but Romans 1:20 states that, “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were they thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. professing to be wise, they became fools.” In Acts 17 Paul arrived to minister to the brethren in Berea. The Bereans were very skeptical because they knew of his past as Saul and not only that they were wise. Wise enough to search the scriptures to see if what Paul preached was truth because they knew man was fallen and that there are wolves in sheep clothing. Another mind blowing illustration of the Lords grace at work is the story I just referred to. The Lord did not stop there as He through the Hold Spirit gave Paul 13 New Testament books to encourage and inspire the saints throughout the ages.
Although here in the land of the free and the home of the brave we still have the right to “Freedom of Speech” but be prepared to pay the price by being openly attacked in one way or another as the odds are at an all time high. Always in season and out of season know what you believe and why you believe it and be prepared to back it up. You may have to pay the consequences as many so called friendships and separations of families fall apart while the love of the world is waxing cold in the hands of an enemy who breeds division. Yet fortunately as I reside in this country known as a great superpower I am comforted to know we are not one of the 52 countries that declare the Bible as illegal. I don’t have to watch my back to make sure I am not being followed in route to meet my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ underground in order to worship the Lord together.
The most powerful illustration in scripture of fallen leaders can be found in Luke chapter 23 when Jesus was sent to the Roman Ruler Pontious Pilate. A multitude of people brought Jesus to him with false accusations in hopes that He would be executed. As I mentioned and desire to make clear is that Pontious Pilate was a ruler. He failed miserably as a leader because he passed the buck to Herod who was responsible for Galilee. Herod treated Jesus with cruelty by mocking Him along with the multitude and then placed a robe on Him which symbolized the mocking. Now, here we have yet another ruler who has failed miserable. Jesus was the Only One Who was without sin yet He was treated as though He had committed horrible crimes. So much so that also in Luke Chapter 23 the people chose a murderer the be freed over Jesus. Now I realize that it was prophesied that those events would happen but Pontious Pilate and Herod both made choices that neither one of them had to. If it had not been them it would have been others.
Here’s the thing……although rulers come and go and no matter how good or bad their acceptance rating is society as a whole which equally includes any leader will continue its vicious cycle until the Lord returns. Even though the Israelites rejected the Lord as King in 1 Samuel 8 & 9 and had Jesus crucified in Luke 23 there is hope! The Lord is on the throne. With every fallen leader in scripture the bad turned into good and the truth prevailed! The greatest triumph was when Jesus arose on the third day! Now as we wait Jesus prepares a place for us until the Lord returns from the clouds to set His foot on the Mount of Olives and everyone will see. Every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord and the people who have placed their hope and trust in Him will be satisfied. Revelation Chapter 21 All things will be made new! There will be no more tears, no more pain nor death! And we shall see a land like no other!
In Genesis Chapter 6 The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth and that every intent of his heart was only evil continually. He was grieved in His heart. He was going to destroy all that He had made but Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. If the Lord were to consider destroying the earth today due to the evilness that abounds Who would He find favor with? Would He choose you? Would He choose Obama or Trump? As John 8:7 says, “He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone.” If man were perfect in and of himself then there would be no need for the Lord. Do not put your hope in man! Trust in the Lord and you will not be disappointed even when you have evil rulers. There are stories in the Bible (It is not fiction!) of cruel leaders but those who were of the Lord submitted to their authority and what seemed to be doom was only temporary and became beautiful testimonies of the Lords faithfulness ! Not to mention we are instructed to submit to governing authorities in Romans Chapter 13 unless of course it goes against scripture. For example, in Daniel Chapter 3 King Nebuchadnezzar set up an image of himself made of gold and sent words for all in the province of Babylon to come and worship the image. However, Shadrach, Meshach and Aded-Nego would not worship the false god because they worshipped the One and Only true God. Nebuchadnezzar ordered they be cast into an exceedingly hot fiery furnace. Yet instead of being burnt to a crisp the servants the Most High God were not affected the fire had no power over their bodies nor was a hair on their head was singed, and neither were their garments affected as the King saw a fourth man in the fire. The Lord had sent an angel in their midst in a form that was like the Son of God. It is in the next Chapter King Nebuchadnezzar acknowledged the Lord and gave Him praise.
Here is a final thought. Instead of focusing so much on the leaders of our country maybe our focus and energy should be spent in discerning their character as they can be all the more tainted and toxic. For the most past we know what we are getting with leaders of countries. In my humble opinion spiritual leaders have a far greater standard to uphold and are more likely to be discrete in their fallen nature. We must be discerning at all cost. Encourage our spiritual leaders when they fall as we are to also do among the brethren. However, when the error of his ways go without regard to live as Christ seek the nearest exit. We must allow the armor of the Lord to exercise its benefits in all fullness of glory as we live out this faith with fear and much trembling.
